Polishing

In an air-conditioned workshop the technology and special strategies for polishing of even and spherical workpieces made from so-called refractory materials e.g. silicon single-crystals, Zerodur and other glasses are acquired.

The desired form accuracy should be in range of submicrometers and the roughness of surface in range of nanometers.

The medium-termed strategy is producing a 1-kg-sphere of silicon with highest accuracy for the new determination of the Avogadro constant.
