Tasks

The Design Group develops novel, highly precise measuring instruments and test facilities which are stable over a long time and extends or modifies existing apparatuses. It also advises scientists as regards materials and designs, carries out component calculations both analytically and by the FEM method, keeps a collection of specialist catalogs and prospectuses to make technical information available, prepares tests to support the design work and preprocesses CAD data for CNC data interchange. The designers and technical draughtsmen/draughtswomen handle the design tasks with the aid of high-performance workstations. The software consists of a 3D CAD program (CoCreate: OSD_Modeling) to realize the draft as a 3D volume model, and of a 2D CAD program (CoCreate: OSD_Annotation) converting the 3D data into the set of drawings necessary for fabrication. Some computers are additionally equipped with software tools allowing a specifically stressed component to be analyzed directly in the 3D process by the finite-element method.
