Type and design examination certificates of instruments designed to measure lengths and their combinations in accordance with Directive 2004/22/EC Annex MI-009 of the European Par-liament

Additional focal points of the Working Group are the issuance of
Type and design examination certificates for:

For the above instruments, the requirements of the Welmec Guide 7.2 and the general conditions of the Certification Body for Measuring Instruments of PTB (ZS-M) must be taken into account in addition.

Test and approval for verification of round timber measuring systems

The round timber measuring systems are used to automatically measure the length and diameter of logs and to calculate the wood volume from these measurements. Calculation is performed in accordance with these volumes based on length measurements and with some quality criteria. The measuring systems thus are subject to mandatory verification. In Germany, only soft wood is marketed in this way. The required approval tests are exclusively performed in situ.

Test and approval for verification of choirometers

Choirometers are length measuring instruments, with the aid of which pork carcasses are classified into legal grades in an objective, reproducible way. The German implementation of the above EU Ordinance is the Grade Ordinance for sides of pork. Due to the different physical measuring technologies of the choirometer types, a distinction is made between optoelectronic designs, which work invasively, ultrasound designs, in the case of which the measuring head is placed onto the surface of the carcass, and the so-called classification automats which classify complete sides of pork.
