3rd International Workshop on Traceability in Large-Scale
Metrology at PTB, Braunschweig (Germany), November 14th - 15th,
2006
The aim of the two-day workshop is to bring together
experts in the field of dimensional Large Scale Metrology and to
discuss traceability needs and accuracy limitations.
The wokshop is jointly organized by NIST, NPL and PTB.

Accuracy increase in industrial
X-ray computer tomography (CT) facilities for dimensional metrology
In industry, computer tomography
(CT) is used for the complete, non-destructive determination of components and has
become important for the detection of defects. Today, CT facilities are also
increasingly used for dimensional measurements. Determination of the dimensions
with CT is, however, affected by deviations which can at present be dominated
only in part. Procedures for the determination of dimensional measurement
deviations are not available to the extent required and satisfactory monitoring
measures are lacking. Industrial determination of the geometry of thick-walled
components with 3D CT is at present impossible as suitable detectors for high energies
are lacking. PTB, BAM and 10 partners from
industry are dealing with the subject "industrial measurement of component
geometries with CT" in a joint project. The three-year project is funded by the
Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and will end on December 31, 2006. Combination of the competences of the two federal institutes (coordinate
metrology and CT experience) and the specific knowledge of the industrial partners
will allow new approaches for dimensional CT measurements to be pursued.

Thread measurement; Software for calculation of
pitch diameter (d2) and indicated value (m)
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt developed a software according to
the guideline EA-10/10 (April 1999). This software allows to calculate the
pitch diameter and indicate value of thread measurements. This software
should become a reference for testing the algorithms. A beta release of the
program
ThreadEA10/10 can be
called by www and supports all common internet browsers.
