Tasks and aims

The aim of the working group is the development and further development of standard devices and methods for the quantities hardness and layer thickness. They create the basis for the traceability of hardness and layer thickness measurements in industry, research and calibration laboratories to the national standards.
The working groups calibrates hardness reference blocks and layer thickness standards.

Main areas of research:

• Construction of an interferential measuring device for the determination of the indenter geometry
• Construction of a standard device for Leeb hardness according to the principle of a falling tube
• 2 DFG-projects:
  • Investigation of the nanoindentation process in real-time and in-situ
  • Development of a nanotensile device on the basis of mikroelektromechanischen Systems (MEMS) und Rastersondenmikroskops (SPM)
