Tasks
Electrical measurements have a great impact on nearly all areas of research and development, industrial activities, quality of life and environment. Non-electric measuring quantities are converted into electrical quantities already at the sensor level and as such are transformed, subsequently processed, stored and transmitted. Therefore, electrical measuring techniques play a key role in metrology.
The tasks of this division consists in research and development work in the area of electrical precision measuring techniques, especially with a view to realizing and disseminating the electrical units and the determination of fundamental constants, the investigation into special thin-film and semiconductor structures, the solving of metrological problems in high-frequency and energy measuring techniques and the determination of material properties.
Within the scope of industrial and legal metrology, electrical quantities are disseminated to calibration laboratories of industry, verification authorities of the federal states, state-approved test centres for measuring instruments for electricity and universities and research institutes. Besides consultancy, the division offers a broad spectrum of calibration and measuring capabilities (see calibration and measuring capabilities) which are fully covered by the division's quality system.
