The Working Group Antenna Measuring Techniques deals with the traceable calibration of antennas in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 40 GHz. At present Europe's largest open area test site (panoramic shot ca. 6,7 MB) with dimensions of the reflecting ground plane of 50 m x 60 m is being erected. Within a distance of about 100 m the surrounding area is free of trees, fences and any other obstacles which could cause undesirable reflections of the waves radiated from the antenna. The measuring station is located in an underground measurement room. This measurement facility can be regarded as a prototype, because a worldwide new technology is applied for constructing the metallic ground plane, which meets top requirements for planarity. Connecting an additional mobile ground plane of 20 m x 20 m to the reference calibration site will allow for testing of antenna characteristics or radiation emission of large vehicles, machines etc.

Moreover, two semi-anechoic chambers of various size and also a GTEM cell are available as field generators.

The calibration of antennas is based on the measurement of scattering parameters using network vector analyzers.
