Traceable calibration of airborn antennas

The aim of the project is to precisely determine the effective radiation characteristics of airborne antennas of the Flight Calibration Services GmbH (FCS) at the Research Airport Braunschweig-Wolfsburg. FCS uses test airplanes for measurements of aircraft navigation and localization facilities and instrumentation, which are verified for compliance with the significant characteristics specified in ICAO-Guidelines (International Civil Aviation Organization). Thus, for the first time worldwide, it has become possible for flight calibration to provide absolute field strength measurements within the required tolerance limits and traceability to SI-Units.

Measurements at the research airport Braunschweig-Wolfsburg (retracted landing gear, replacement by supporting stand, mobile ground plane).
