Reference Room for Testing
the Performance of Room Simulation Programs

For checking properties of room simulation
software, extremely complex rooms are not optimal because too many uncertainties in
geometry input and wall data (absorption, diffusivity) influence the calculation result.
Therefore a simple room with seven surfaces is proposed here to serve as plain reference
model. It has the outer dimensions of the music studio of the PTB
and all design details were neglected.
Both the adoption of room coordinates and the calculation of room acoustic
parameters according to ISO 3382 can be carried out with most room simulation programs.
This room is intended as base model to check the functioning of room simulation programs.
Everyone interested both users and developers of room simulation programs is requested to
send his calculation results to PTB by Email. The 9 known room acoustic parameters T30,
EDT, D50, C80, TS, G, LF, LFC,
IACC should be calculated in 6 octave bands under normal
conditions and results should be send to us in an Excel-file
that can be downloaded here.
