Working Group 1.72
Applied Acoustics

Tasks

The emphasis of the work is put on the performance of basic investigations into the metrology of airborne and structure-borne sound fields. The findings are applied in the development of measurement procedures for field and power quantities, especially in the area of structure-borne and impact sound measurement. An essential point is here the determination and proper consideration of the uncertainties associated with the measured quantities. Results are made available to interested parties in society and industry by active collaboration in national and international committees. An actual apllication - the calculation of the uncertainty of the sound insulation prediction according to EN 12354-1 - can be found here.

The working group is furthermore responsible for the quality assurance in building acoustics in Germany. The testing laboratories which certify acoustic properties of building products are regularly checked within the scope of comparison measurements held at PTB. Also, assessments are undertaken by the working group for the approval of testing laboratories for building acoustic quantities.

A section of scientific news related to the working group topics can be found here.
