Tasks

Noise influences the quality of life of many people, may cause physical impairments and leads to considerable costs. Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most frequently recognized occupational diseases. Sound level meters, the most important instruments for noise measurement, are in Germany subject to legal control. The “Noise Measuring Technology” Working Group checks the instrument type and thus the admissibility for verification of sound level meters. In addition, the Working Group deals with a great variety of questions from the field of noise and sound measurement and noise protection. Other fields of work are the calibration of capacitor microphones in the free field and questions related with room acoustics and auralization, which are used as an
important auxiliary means in the processing of sound events.
