Tasks

The Department of Gas Flow has metrological competence in the measurement of speed, quantity and the flowrate of gas flows. The main tasks are:

• Providing national primary and secondary standards for the realization and dissemination of the units


• Developing and improving new measuring techniques and standard devices


• Performing type examinations of gas meters within the scope of legal metrology


• Calibration of gas meters and cooperation within the Deutscher Kalibrierdienst DKD (German calibration service)


• Representing the PTB in national and international organisations and working in standardisation bodies


• Consulting, especially for the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, state- approved test centers and verification authorities of the Bundesländer (federal states of Germany) in matters of measurement of speed, quantity and flowrate of gas flows
