PTB presents the book „A Focus of Discoveries“
25.11.2008
[ptb]
What do a magnetic resonance tomograph, a laser and the most modern computer semi-conductor have in common? They are current applications of quantum physics which was born already in the year 1900. The essential concept - that namely the energy in the world is not passed on continuously but rather always in the form of minute parcels, the quanta - would perhaps have never occurred to Max Planck, its intellectual father, if there hadn't been a series of experiments in the newly founded Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt (PTR) in Berlin. And also the course of development of the superconductor would perhaps have been totally different without the PTR. That is reason enough to write a book about it. The two authors, Rudolf P. Huebener and Heinz Lübbig, will present their book "A Focus of Discoveries" on 28th November in the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Berlin Institute, in the historic Hermann von Helmholtz Building. All interested parties are cordially invited.
