The Graduators - latest issue of the PTB magazine maßstäbe

In this issue, the maßstäbe take the readers on a trip around the different aspects of temperature

25.11.2008

[ptb]  Now that it's dismal and unpleasant outside, who wouldn't like to take a trip somewhere immediately - the best would be to a place where the weather conditions are clearer: where it is properly warm or even ice cold, the sun included. The latest issue of the maßstäbe, the scientific-journalistic magazine of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), offers such a trip - at least on paper. The well-proven host of round trips into the realm of physics has worked out a multifaceted tour. It begins in front of your door step and ends with a place in the sun, there with the question of how long the sun's rays which are currently causing your sunburn have been en route. In between times, the maßstäbe visit physicists who are producing room temperature (in fact 20 degrees centigrade exactly, accurate to one thousandth of a degree) with enormous effort. You will meet creatures who are perfectly adapted to extreme temperatures and will travel to the Antarctic with climate researchers. Issue 9 of the maßstäbe, entitled "Die Gradmesser" (The Graduators), is as always available at the Press and Information Office of the PTB (massstaebe@ptb.de) and can be ordered there, also as a subscription, free of charge, or as a class set.
