Billions of mirrors bring light into the office
The micro- and nanoworld has long stopped being interesting to fundamental researchers only. On the contrary - these fascinating, minuscule objects penetrate more and more into everday life. Thus it is now possible, for example, to produce windows having billions of micromirrors arranged between their two insulating layers of glass. They direct the daylight over a large area into interior spaces; this conserves artificial light, people feel more comfortable in the pleasant, "natural" daylight, and in addition, the micromirrors serve to regulate the heat in buildings. Such "active light-directing windows" - an award-winning development - is the subject of the lecture by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Hillmer, University of Kassel, on Thursday, the 21st of June in the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum (State Museum of Braunschweig), located at the Burgplatz. Admission is free.
