Abstract:

Since the early 1990s the UKs Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), with the support of PTB staff, has been using an Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) hollow cathode source developed and calibrated by the PTB. This source which includes grazing incidence optics and automated control electronics is used to provide a calibration baseline for measurements carried out by solar observatories on satellites and rockets. The RAL-PTB collaboration has so far been responsible for the radiometric calibration of satellites operated by ESA, NASA and the Japanese space agency JAXA, as well as sounding rockets from the Goddard Space Flight Center, and Montana State University. The talk will briefly outline the origins and development of the collaboration and discuss some of the instruments, calibration processes and results. Finally the potential future programmes for this productive team will be addressed.
