Symposia and Prize

Every two years, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt organizes the Helmholtz Symposium in memory of its first president. Each symposium takes up a special topical subject in the field of basic research in physics, which is particularly closely linked to a current metrological issue or might achieve trend-setting significance.

The Helmholtz Prize endowed with € 20 000 is the most distinguished German award in the world of metrology. Every two years, the Helmholtz-Fonds (Helmholtz Foundation) and also the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany) pay tribute to European scientists for precision measurements in physics, chemistry and medicine.

Aim of the Helmholtz-Fonds is to promote science and research on the field of precision measurements in physics by PTB seminars, the Helmholtz Symposium and the Helmholtz Prize.
