Declaration of conformity

For certain measuring instruments, the Verification Ordinance of 1988 has introduced the so-called declaration of conformity ("verification by the manufacturer") to replace of the official verification. The manufacturer declares that the instruments manufactured by him are in compliance with the type approval (granted by PTB). Instead of the verification mark, the "H" mark is applied to the instrument. Subsequent verification may be replaced by maintenance or comparison measurements. The conformity test has been provided above all for volume meters made of glass, dosemeters for the constancy test and measuring containers for non-liquid products.

The introduction of the declaration of conformity paves the way for a procedure, which, on the basis of future EC directives, is expected to be adopted in all EC member states. Throughout Europe, the responsibility for the correctness of measuring instruments thus will to an increasing extent be shifted to the manufacturer.
