    OIML

In the International Organization for Legal Metrology the representatives of almost 100 states work on uniform design requirements and testing instructions for all measuring instruments. Within the certification system of the OIML, the certificates issued by the member states confirm that a certain type of measuring instrument complies with the Recommendations of the OIML. Thus a type tested and approved in one country can be approved in another country without the tests having to be repeated.

Dr. Roman Schwartz, Head of PTB Division "Mechanics and Acoustics", is one of the OIML vice presidents.

    WELMEC

The European Cooperation in Legal Metrology has been existing since 1990 and thus is the oldest regional organization worldwide in which the national authorities for legal metrology cooperate. In the meantime all countries of the European Union and the EFTA as well as the countries having applied for membership in the EU are members of the WELMEC. It coordinates the national and regional activities in all technical questions of legal metrology.

    COOMET

Since 1999 a legal metrology working group has been existing in the "Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutions" which as a union of national metrology institutes has focussed its work on the area of Fundamentals of metrology.
