For more than 20 years the PTB has been cooperating with the National Central Office for Quality and Technical Supervision of the People's Republic of China (CSBTS). Integrated into broader agreements between the governments of the two states, the joint work concentrates on the further development and validation of China's national metrological standards and the qualification of scientific staff for the Chinese metrology institutes. Within the scope of this work, the former training has been replaced by full-fledged cooperation of Chinese guest scientists at PTB laboratories. More than 100 scientists from China stayed at the PTB, and more than 100 PTB experts stayed in China for a short time. The PTB managed three BMZ projects with a total volume of over 6 million DM to support China's national metrology institute and funds the cooperation from its own budget with about 100000,- DM per year.
