Technology Transfer: Overview

PTB understands technology transfer to mean all activities which lead to an economic exploitation of its work results. As early as the establishment of PTB, the aim was to promote economic development through the development of modern metrology, in close collaboration with industry.
Our mission statement very concretely describes our tasks which the whole PTB prescribes to:

  • Exploitation of patents - as investment protection for the German and European industries
  • Increase in the number of research cooperations with partners from industry and society.
  • Short-term staff exchanges between industry and PTB

Innumerable new technologies are created within the framework of our public mandate: the realization, maintenance and dissemination of the legal units. These enable economic growth and thus the creation of jobs, also in branches outside of metrology.

You will find special technology transfer offers under Highlights. Additional PTB inventions can be downloaded interactively from our patent database.

The value of this work is revealed in the fact that PTB was awarded the Technology Transfer Prize of the Braunschweig Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for the fifth time now. The latest, awarded innovation is depicted in the adjacent diagramm. In collaboration with a global Precious Metals and Technology Company a PTB scientist developed a revolutionary new implant system. The implant and restoration are simply clicked together, preventing rotation. Through the clip mechanism a closed, stress-free implant is created.

Direct any questions you may have on this subject to Dr. Bernhard Smandek, the authorized representative for technology transfer.
You will find the address on the contact page.
