In accordance with the mandate derived from the Units and Time Act and from the Measures and Verification Act, the subject area "Electricity and Magnetism" deals with the realization, maintenance and dissemination of the electrical and magnetic units. Concretely, the following tasks are performed:
Research and development for the realization and maintenance of the electrical units with the aid of electrical quantum metrology procedures
Realization and dissemination of the electrical and magnetic units (without energy measuring technology) over extended value ranges, making as direct use as possible of quantum effects in the whole low-frequency range; technology transfer of electrical and magnetic measurement procedures to industry
Realization and dissemination of the units of electrical energy measuring technology (including high-voltage measurement technique) as well as conformity assessment and testing of measuring devices for electricity (including ancillary equipment)
Realization and dissemination of the units of high-frequency, field and antenna metrology over extended frequency ranges as well as research and development of measurement procedures for the characterization of high-frequency systems
Research and development of measurement procedures for nanomagnetic structures and systems as well as traceability of the measurement of nanomagnetic characteristics.
