On the following pages, a new method for the automatic analysis of electrocardiograms (ECGs) will be presented. Furthermore, the so-called Follow-up will be described by which the development of a patient's ECGs can be pursued over a certain period of time. Starting point for this method is the assumption that two ECGs with the same or very similar signal patterns in their corresponding leads have the same or at least comparable cardiological diagnoses. For this purpose, an ECG signal pattern database is used with at least 24,000 patient's ECGs for which the diagnoses are well-known.
