The working group carries out methodical and instrumental research in the field of flow cytometry to improve analytical methods in hematology and immunology for enhancing the reliability of diagnosis and the efficacy of therapy control.
Measuring techniques permitting the determination of the concentration of different blood cell populations with high precision are applied to acquire reference values for interlaboratory surveys for external quality assurance in hematology.
Highly sensitive and selective methods are employed to detect rare cells in blood samples and to measure their concentration.
In addition, studies on the function of human (blood) cells and their constituents are carried out. Both, flow cytometry and confocal fluorescence microscopy are used together with selective fluorescence labelling techniques.
