Fields of Activity:Tasks
The working group carries out research and development on non-invasive methods for medical diagnostics and monitoring of therapy in the fields of biomedical optics. At present, laser-based spectroscopic and imaging methods are being developed and tested in clinical settings.
Fields of Activity
Fluorescence imaging, fluorescence-guided endoscopy
- Fluorescence-guided endoscopy of tumors and their pre-cursors in the gastrointestinal tract
- early detection of rheumatoid arthritis by laser induced fluorescence imaging
- in vivo characterisation and testing of novel specific and non-specific fluorescence contrast agents for molecular imaging applications
- intercomparison: fluorescence-immunoassays
Quantitative fluorescence imaging
- Development and application of methods for fluorescence imaging to detect breast tumors
- Development of methods for three-dimensional optical imaging in fluorescence mammography and determination of the enrichment of a contrast agent in lesions
- Development and comparison of data analysis procedures for in vivo determination of optical properties (absorption, scattering) of breast lesions and derivation of physiological parameters (hemoglobin concentration, tissue oxygenation)
Time-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy and imaging of the adult brain
- non-invasive determination of changes in oxy- and deoxyhaemoglobin concentration, oxygen saturation and concentration of an optical contrast agent in the adult human cortex
- development of a compact, portable time-domain brain imager suited for bedside monitoring
- neurological applications: investigation of neurovascular coupling; assessment of cerebral perfusion in stroke patients
