The most important range for industrial thermometry is between 0 °C and 1000 °C. The working group creates, maintains and disseminates capabilities in the measurement of temperatures according to the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90). In order to assure traceability and cross-border equivalence of temperature measurements, standard thermometers and fixed-point cells of laboratories of the German calibration service (Deutscher Kalibrierdienst, DKD) are calibrated. There is considerable international competition for most accurate temperature measurements and the working group is one of the leading in the world. The interests of German and European manufacturers of thermometers are represented in several national and international organisations.
