Radiometry with Synchrotron Radiation
Department 7.1

Tasks

Application of synchrotron radiation in the UV, EUV, VUV, and X-ray spectral range at the electron storage rings Metrology Light Source (MLS) and BESSY II for basic and applied metrological tasks with main focus on radiometry:

  • Realisation of radiometric units by using the primary source standards MLS and BESSY II as calculable sources of synchrotron radiation according to Schwinger's theory
  • Realisation of spectral responsivity scales in the UV, VUV, EUV, and X-ray ranges by means of cryogenic radiometers as primary detector standards
  • Calibration of radiation sources and detectors from the UV to X-rays
  • Investigation of photon-matter interaction for the development of radiation detectors
  • Characterisation and quality assurance of optical components and assembled systems from the UV to X-rays, in particular for EUV lithography
  • Investigation of nanolayers and nanoparticles applying X-ray reflectometry and Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)
  • Photon diagnostics and materials research at X-ray lasers
