Tasks and aims

The aim of the working group is the development and further development of standard devices and methods for the quantities hardness and layer thickness. They create the basis for the traceability of hardness and layer thickness measurements in industry, research and calibration laboratories to the national standards.
The working groups calibrates hardness reference blocks and layer thickness standards.

Main areas of research:

• Construction of measuring devices for the determination of the indenter geometry
• 2 DFG-projects:
  • Investigation of the nanoindentation process in real-time and in-situ
  • Development of a multi SFM-head on the basis of micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS)
