Division 5
Division 5 is the world of the PTB engineers. The scale extends from nano- and microtechnology to the macroworld of the large coordinate measuring machines. In addition, the Division is responsible for the centralized design and construction of instruments for the PTB.
Reference software for roughness metrology RPTBTasks
It is the main task of this division to carry out research and development work in order to improve its measuring procedures, measuring equipment and primary standards with a view to calibrating reference standards for industrial metrology in accordance with units and measurands agreed on the international level. This link-up (traceability) to national standards contributes to assuring the quality of industrial products.
Further tasks:
- cooperation in the determination of fundamental constants
- responsibility for the centralized manufacture of instruments
