Bio-organic Analysis
Working Group 3.12

Tasks

  • Development of methods for measurement of diagnostic markers in patient samples by mass spectrometry
  • Evaluation of Clinical Reference Laboratories
  • Participation in comparative studies with other National Metrology Institutes (as NIST, NPL, LGC, LNE, NMIA) to maintain international equivalence and reliability of measurements at highest level of precision
  • Development of novel mass-spectrometry based measurement methods for protein markers to backup quality management in clinical routine laboratories
  • Basic research to early discovery of upcoming measurement challenges in the biomedical area and development of appropriate (bio-) metrological responses

Research

  • Analytical Biochemistry: Protein analysis by mass spectrometry
  • Quantitative Proteomics: Protein quantification in complex samples (as serum) using isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS)
  • Isoform-specific quantification of growth hormone (somatotropin) in serum by IDMS
  • Characterization of 3D-protein structure by chemical cross-linking/ mass spectrometry
  • Mass spectrometric investigations about peptide-membrane complexes and peptide self assembly

Projects

  • Metrology for biomolecular origin of disease (BiOrigin, EMRP-Call 2011, HLT10 ) 01.06.2012-31.05.2015 (co-ordinated by PTB)
  • Metrology for metalloproteins (Metallomics, EMRP-Call 2011, HLT05 ) 01.05.2012-30.04.2015
  • Traceability of complex biomolecules and biomarkers in diagnostics- effecting measurement comparability in clinical medicine (ClinBioTrace, iMERA-Plus 2008, T2.J.11 ) 01.06.2008-31.05.2011
  • Feasibility to develop reference measurement systems for Thyrotropin (TSH) and for free Thyroxine (FT4), and validation of reference measurement systems (procedure and material) for Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3) in human serum (IVD-NONSI-THYROID, EU FP5-Growth ) 01.11.2001-31.12.2005
