The realization and maintenance of the unit Tesla of the magnetic flux density B as the base unit of magnetic quantities is an essential task of the working group. The dissemination of the unit Tesla is realized by:
Magnetic measurements basing on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)
Calibration of field coils as standards of DC fields and AC fields
Calibration of magnetometers in DC fields and AC fields
Calibration of magnetic characteristics of magnetic materials:
Calibration of single electrical sheet steel according to IEC 60404, part 2, 3 and 6
Calibration of susceptibility
Calibration of coercive force
Calibration of magnetic dipole moment
Measurement of field profiles on the coil axis
Permanent reference magnets
Thin magnetic films, i.e. hysteresis and coercivity
Reduction of measurement uncertainties of NMR measurements of fields up to 2 mT
Study of the natural line width of NMR spectra of fields up to 2 mT
Reduction of the measurement uncertainty and enlargement of the field area of measurements on sheet steel
Magnetic force microscopy imaging software
Equipment qualification of magnetic gradient sensors for the detection of unexploded bombs
Dimensional prerequisites:
Please contact us before ordering a test or request for calibration. We need to know the mechanical dimensions of the test object.
When ordering of tests on Epstein samples and sheets the dimensions and tolerances as defined in IEC 60404 - part 2 and 3 should be strictly maintained.
The measuring capabilities for magnetic quantities offered at PTB are listed at the BIPM's (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures) "Calibration and Measurement Capabilities" database (CMC).
