Applied Acoustics
Working Group 1.72

Tasks

The emphasis of the work is put on the performance of basic investigations into the metrology of sound fields. The findings are applied in the development of measurement procedures for airborne sound power and quantities derived thereof, e. g. sound insulation, sound from service equipment or impact noise level. An essential point is here the determination and proper consideration of the uncertainties associated with the measured quantities. Results are made available to interested parties in society and industry by active collaboration in national and international committees. A current application - the calculation of the uncertainty of the sound insulation prediction according to EN 12354-1- can be found here.

The working group is furthermore responsible for the quality assurance in building acoustics in Germany. The testing laboratories which certify acoustic properties of building products are regularly checked within the scope of comparison measurements held at PTB. Also, assessments are undertaken by the working group for the approval of testing laboratories for building acoustic quantities.
