After the required tests have been carried out, this Working Group grants type approvals for the following measuring instruments which are used in traffic control and are subject to mandatory verification:

Instruments for speed control
Traffic light cameras
Instruments for speed and distance control based on the analysis of videos (VKS)
Video watches and stop watches (as far as these are used for official measurements)
Taximeters und odometers

Another important task is to perform research in the field of measuring instruments for traffic control, in particular the development of novel sensors for speed measurements. These include reference facilities for comparison measurements in approval tests whose suitability was verified, among other things, by comparisons with a high-quality GPS inertial system.
